Mixpanel Pricing & Review (India)

Mixpanel is event-metered product analytics. What it costs in rupees, where the free tier runs out, and when an Indian team should pick something else.

Pricing in India

Mixpanel prices on events per month rather than users — a free tier of roughly 1 million events a month, then paid plans from about $20 a month, billed in US dollars with GST and card forex markup on top.

  • Funnels, retention and cohort analysis
  • Roughly 1M events/month
  • Web and mobile app event tracking
  • Raw data export
  • Advanced modelling features

What Mixpanel is

Mixpanel is a product analytics tool. It tracks what individual people do inside your app or website — signups, funnel steps, repeat visits — and turns that into retention curves, cohorts and funnels you can re-slice after the data is collected, without re-tagging anything.

The thing to know before anything else: Mixpanel meters you on events, not on users. One monthly number — your total tracked actions — decides whether it is free or a real line item. It sits alongside Google Analytics 4 (GA4) rather than replacing it.

Key features

  • Event-level tracking from web and mobile apps, with funnels, retention and cohort analysis built on top
  • Funnels and segments that can be re-cut after collection, so you are not limited to the questions you thought of when you instrumented
  • Session replay, available as an add-on
  • Warehouse connections, and raw data export on paid tiers
  • Works as a standard destination from customer data platforms (CDPs) such as Segment and RudderStack, so a marketer can switch it on without an engineering ticket
  • Metered on events per month, which is the opposite of how Amplitude and most Indian engagement platforms bill

Who it fits

Bootstrapped and seed-stage Indian teams under roughly a million events a month. Mixpanel’s free tier covers around 1 million events a month, which is enough for most pre-Series-A products. At that stage the honest answer is that GA4 plus one free product analytics tier is the whole stack.

High-traffic, low-engagement sites. Take a direct-to-consumer (D2C) store with 60,000 monthly visitors, 1.3 sessions each and 12 tracked actions per session — about 936,000 events a month. That fits inside a 1 million event allowance, while the same shop’s 60,000 monthly tracked users would blow past Amplitude’s roughly 50,000-user free cap. The event meter is the cheaper free ride here, though barely, and a festive-season spike removes the headroom.

Lean marketing teams without a data engineer. Mixpanel is generally faster for a marketer to self-serve on than Amplitude, which matters when the person asking the question is also the person building the chart.

It fits less well for high-frequency products. A business-to-business (B2B) SaaS tool where each user fires 300 events a month will exhaust an event allowance long before it troubles a user-based cap.

Where it is weak

The meter can work against you. Every page view, click and server-side call counts. Chatty products — fintech, gaming, logistics dashboards — burn through allowances that a lightly-engaged content site would never touch.

The free tier has moved, sharply. Mixpanel’s free allowance was cut from roughly 20 million events a month to roughly 1 million in 2024, which caught small teams mid-quarter. Re-check the pricing page every six months and do not build a budget on a figure you remember.

We have not costed the upper tiers. LearnMarketing has published a figure for Mixpanel’s entry paid plan and nothing above it. Where the tier table above says “Not published,” that is literal — we have no verified rupee band for large-volume or enterprise Mixpanel contracts, and you should not infer one from the entry price.

It does not replace GA4. Mixpanel has no equivalent of GA4’s native connections to Google Ads and Search Console, so you keep both and pay the cost of agreeing one event naming convention across them.

Paid-only essentials. Raw data export and advanced modelling are gated behind paid plans. And Mixpanel analyses; it does not message. If your actual gap is “we can see the drop-off but cannot reach the people who dropped off,” you need a campaign tool as well.

The India-specific tax. Billing is in US dollars, so expect a 2–3.5% cross-currency markup on card payments and 18% goods and services tax (GST) on imported services. GST-registered businesses reclaim it as input tax credit, so it is a cash-flow drag rather than a loss.

Alternatives

Amplitude — the closest substitute. Feature lists have largely converged; the meter is the real difference, since Amplitude charges on monthly tracked users with a free tier around 50,000 of them and paid plans from roughly $49 a month. It also has more analytical depth and more surface area to learn. Our GA4 vs Mixpanel vs Amplitude comparison works through which free tier lasts longer for your traffic shape.

GA4 — free, already installed, and the common language with agencies and ad platforms. It answers acquisition questions well and person-level retention questions badly. Keep it regardless of what else you buy; there is no upside to removing it.

CleverTap, MoEngage or WebEngage — Indian platforms that bundle behavioural analytics with campaign execution over push, WhatsApp and email. Heavier than you need if you only want analysis, but they can replace two tools at once. Pricing sits in the ₹6–40 lakh a year mid-market band depending on the vendor and your monthly active users.

If your budget is genuinely zero and you have engineering time, PostHog is the usual self-hostable candidate — though we have published no cost figure for it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mixpanel free for a small Indian team?

Usually yes, at early stage. Mixpanel’s free tier covers roughly 1 million events a month, which comfortably holds a B2B product with 8,000 monthly active users firing 40 events each, or a D2C store doing around 936,000 tracked actions. Note the allowance was cut from about 20 million events in 2024, so check the current figure before you plan a quarter around it.

Does Mixpanel replace Google Analytics 4?

No. Mixpanel is product analytics — person-level behaviour, retention and cohorts over time. GA4 is web analytics — sessions, channels, campaigns and cost, with native Google Ads and Search Console connections that Mixpanel does not offer. The standard lean-team setup is GA4 for acquisition plus one product analytics tool for behaviour, sharing a single agreed event naming convention across both.

Mixpanel or Amplitude — which free tier lasts longer?

Check your numbers, not the feature lists. Mixpanel meters events (free to roughly 1 million a month); Amplitude meters monthly tracked users (free to roughly 50,000). High-traffic, low-engagement sites stay free longer on Mixpanel. Low-traffic, high-engagement products stay free longer on Amplitude. If your product team already runs one of them, use that one rather than standing up a second tool.

What does Mixpanel cost in rupees?

Paid plans start at roughly $20 a month, about ₹1,750 at an assumed ₹88 to the dollar. Add 18% GST and a 2–3.5% card forex markup on top. Above that entry plan we have published no figure: LearnMarketing has not costed Mixpanel’s higher-volume or enterprise tiers, so treat any number you see elsewhere as unverified and get a quote against your own monthly event count.
