The Indian Marketing Stack Cost Reference

Every published figure from our India pricing guides in one place: what each stack layer costs, which tool fits which stage, and what we have not costed.

A small Indian marketing team can run a credible stack for very little software spend: GA4 is free, RudderStack’s free tier covers around a million events a month, Zoho Marketing Automation runs roughly ₹1,000–1,600 a month at 1,000 contacts, and a WhatsApp provider costs ₹1,000–₹2,500 a month before Meta’s per-message fees. A mid-market team should plan for an engagement platform in the ₹6–40 lakh a year band, plus channel spend that frequently exceeds the licence. A larger team buying an enterprise data CDP — customer data platform — is looking at ₹40 lakh upward in licence and a year-one total of roughly two to two-and-a-half times whatever the vendor quotes.

This page is the index to everything LearnMarketing has published on what a marketing stack costs in India. Every figure below comes from one of our own guides and links back to it. Where we have not published a number, we say so rather than filling the gap.

Layer 1: Customer data

This is the plumbing — the tools that collect events from your app and website, stitch them to one profile per person, and route them onward. It is the layer where Indian teams most often overbuy.

Option What it is for Published cost band Deep dive
RudderStack Warehouse-first event pipeline with a Segment-compatible SDK Free to around 1M events/month; ₹0–₹45,000/mo at 5M events; ₹1.5–₹4 lakh/mo at 50M (quote only) Segment vs RudderStack vs Snowplow
Twilio Segment Widest list of no-code marketing destinations Free tier around 1,000 tracked users, then from about US$120/mo (~₹10,600); ₹50,000–₹1.5 lakh/mo at 5M events; ₹3–₹9 lakh/mo at 50M Segment vs RudderStack vs Snowplow
Snowplow Schema-validated behavioural data in your own cloud account Community Edition has no licence fee; cloud bill ₹10,000–₹15,000/mo at 300K events, ₹35,000–₹50,000 at 5M, ₹1.5–₹3 lakh at 50M. All-in at 5M events, including engineer time: ₹65,000–₹1.1 lakh/mo Segment vs RudderStack vs Snowplow
mParticle Enterprise data CDP for heavy mobile apps and strict governance Enterprise only; mid-market band ₹60 lakh–₹2 crore+ a year Best CDPs in India: pricing compared
Zeotap Identity resolution and consent, India-specific Enterprise, use-case scoped; ₹30 lakh–₹1 crore a year Best CDPs in India: pricing compared
Reverse ETL (Hightouch, Census, RudderStack) Pushing warehouse tables into ad, email and WhatsApp tools We have not published a figure for this yet. Pricing is shaped per synced record and destination, plus warehouse compute Reverse ETL vs CDP
Implementation and ownership Integration work, identity rules, and the person who owns the schema Licence is only 35–50% of year one; implementation runs 0.5x–1.5x licence; Indian integrators bill ₹8,000–₹25,000 per consultant per day; an Indian martech lead sits at ₹18–₹35 lakh a year How much a CDP implementation actually costs

One decision rule from the pipeline guide travels further than any price: divide your monthly events by your monthly active users. Above roughly 100, per-user pricing favours you; below 20, per-event pricing usually wins.

Layer 2: Engagement and messaging

This is where most Indian marketing budgets actually go, because the software licence is only the entry fee. The messages are billed separately.

Option What it is for Published cost band Deep dive
WebEngage Journey builder for mid-market Indian D2C, edtech and BFSI teams Lowest entry point of the six platforms we compared; mid-market band ₹6–₹25 lakh a year CleverTap vs MoEngage vs WebEngage
MoEngage Product analytics and campaigns in one interface Mid-market band ₹8–₹35 lakh a year; startup programmes available Best CDPs in India: pricing compared
CleverTap High-frequency personalisation on deep raw event data Mid-market band ₹10–₹40 lakh a year; self-serve entry tiers sit in the low hundreds of dollars a month CleverTap vs MoEngage vs WebEngage
WhatsApp Business Platform, via a provider Two-way messaging, cart recovery, order updates, click-to-WhatsApp ads Meta charges about ₹0.78–₹0.88 per marketing message, ₹0.11–₹0.15 per utility message and around ₹0.13 per authentication message; replies inside the 24-hour window are free. Provider software is ₹1,000–₹15,000 a month WhatsApp marketing in India
SMS One-time passwords and fallback reach ₹0.12–₹0.25 per message, plus DLT registration WhatsApp marketing in India
Email sends Long-form nurture, cheapest per contact ₹0.02–₹0.10 per send WhatsApp marketing in India
RCS Rich cards inside the default Android messaging app Varies by operator, often ₹0.20–₹0.60 per message WhatsApp marketing in India

All three Indian engagement platforms price on monthly active users (MAU) in slabs — our guide cites example bands at 1 lakh, 5 lakh, 10 lakh and 50 lakh users — and none of them publishes a rate card, which is why the bands above are wide.

Layer 3: Product analytics

Web analytics tells you which ad to turn off. Product analytics tells you which onboarding step to rebuild. Lean teams need both answers, and the free tiers usually decide the tool.

Option What it is for Published cost band Deep dive
GA4 (standard) Acquisition: channels, campaigns, landing pages, cost Free. Hard limits bite at 500 distinct event names and 50 event-scoped custom dimensions; user- and event-level retention is 2 or 14 months; BigQuery export is free up to roughly 1 million events a day GA4 vs Mixpanel vs Amplitude
GA4 360 Enterprise analytics with higher limits Commonly reported to start near $50,000 a year — around ₹44 lakh a year GA4 vs Mixpanel vs Amplitude
Mixpanel Funnels and retention, metered on events Free tier around 1 million events a month (cut from 20 million in 2024); paid from roughly $20 a month, about ₹1,750 GA4 vs Mixpanel vs Amplitude
Amplitude Behavioural analytics, metered on monthly tracked users Free tier around 50,000 monthly tracked users; paid from roughly $49 a month, about ₹4,300 GA4 vs Mixpanel vs Amplitude
PostHog Self-hostable alternative when the budget is genuinely zero We have not published a figure for this yet, beyond noting a generous monthly free allowance GA4 vs Mixpanel vs Amplitude

The meter matters more than the feature list. A 60,000-visitor D2C store firing about 936,000 events a month fits inside a 1 million event allowance and blows straight past a 50,000 monthly-tracked-user cap. A B2B product with 8,000 monthly active users firing 40 events each — 320,000 events — is comfortably free on either.

Layer 4: CRM and email

This is the only layer where all three leading options publish list prices, which makes it the easiest to budget and the easiest to overspend on.

Option What it is for Published cost band Deep dive
Zoho Marketing Automation Lead scoring, journeys and web behaviour, billed in rupees Around ₹1,000–1,600 a month at 1,000 contacts; ₹4,000–6,000 at 10,000; ₹13,000–20,000 at 50,000 Zoho vs HubSpot vs Mailchimp
Zoho Campaigns The cheaper, email-only sibling We have not published a figure for this yet Zoho vs HubSpot vs Mailchimp
Mailchimp (Standard) Newsletters, ecommerce flows, small lists About $20–30 (₹1,800–2,600) at 1,000 contacts; $100–135 (₹8,800–11,900) at 10,000; $350–450 (₹31,000–40,000) at 50,000 Zoho vs HubSpot vs Mailchimp
HubSpot Marketing Hub Marketing, sales and service on one record Starter about $15–20 per seat (₹1,300–1,800), and a free tier exists; at 10,000 contacts Starter is about $195 (₹17,000) with add-ons or Professional about $1,390 (₹1.2 lakh); at 50,000 Professional is about $3,390 (₹3 lakh), plus a one-time onboarding fee in the ₹2.5 lakh range Zoho vs HubSpot vs Mailchimp
The dollar surcharge on all of the above What a USD-billed tool actually costs an Indian buyer 2–3.5% cross-currency markup plus 18% GST — roughly ₹3,000–4,500 a month, about ₹40,000 a year, on a ₹1.2 lakh monthly bill Zoho vs HubSpot vs Mailchimp

The curves separate violently after 10,000 contacts. HubSpot adds contacts in blocks of 5,000 at a few hundred dollars a block, so a list growing from 10,000 to 50,000 can add more than ₹2 lakh a month without anyone approving a purchase.

Layer 5: Paid media and measurement

Media is not software, but it is the largest line in most Indian marketing budgets, and the measurement tooling that keeps it honest belongs in the same plan.

Option What it is for Published cost band Deep dive
Meta Ads Creating demand in categories nobody searches for yet About 70% of a first ₹1,00,000 for discovery-led categories — ₹60,000 prospecting plus ₹15,000 retargeting; inverted to ₹35,000 prospecting where search volume exists Meta Ads vs Google Ads
Google Ads Capturing demand that already exists About 30% of a first ₹1,00,000 — ₹15,000 on brand terms plus ₹10,000 on Shopping or tight non-brand; ₹50,000 where the category is searched. Clicks in intent-led categories run ₹15–₹40 Meta Ads vs Google Ads
Minimum viable daily spend Getting a readable signal inside a month ₹3,000–₹5,000 a day per platform; a ₹1 lakh month is ₹3,333 a day, which funds two or three live tests, not ten Meta Ads vs Google Ads
Creative production The variable that actually decides Meta performance ₹10,000–₹20,000 of new ad production per ₹1 lakh of media Meta Ads vs Google Ads
Attribution tooling Daily and weekly campaign decisions Free in platform dashboards; ₹1–₹5 lakh a year for a paid tool MMM vs attribution vs incrementality
Incrementality testing Proving a channel causes sales Mostly the revenue you give up during the holdout, plus analyst time; worth starting once monthly spend passes roughly ₹5 lakh, and a matched-city geo test is achievable above ₹50 lakh in annual media MMM vs attribution vs incrementality
Marketing mix modelling Splitting budget across channels, including offline ₹15–₹60 lakh a year via an agency, far less with open-source tools plus an analyst; earns its keep above roughly ₹1–₹2 crore of annual media across three or more channels MMM vs attribution vs incrementality

The two line items that decide your total

Channel spend, not licence. Our CDP pricing guide works through a brand with 2 million monthly active users sending 1.5 million WhatsApp marketing messages a month: the licence lands near ₹20 lakh a year while the messaging costs ₹12 lakh a month, roughly ₹1.44 crore a year. The channel bill is seven times the software bill, and improving targeting enough to cut volume 20% saves about ₹29 lakh — more than the licence. Even at modest scale the pattern holds: 2 lakh reachable users receiving one marketing template a month is about ₹1.6 lakh a month, over ₹19 lakh a year, in Meta fees alone.

Year one, not the quote. Our implementation guide’s worked example — a D2C brand with 2.2 million customer records — comes to ₹38 lakh licence, ₹24 lakh implementation partner, ₹17 lakh internal time and ₹5 lakh tooling: roughly ₹84 lakh in year one and ₹60 lakh in year two. The licence is about 45% of the total. Present the whole number to finance, because approving 40% of a project is how it freezes halfway.

How to choose at your stage

Solo or two-person team, bootstrapped

GA4 plus one free product analytics tier, RudderStack’s free tier if you need a pipeline at all, and Zoho if you bill in rupees. Skip the CDP: below roughly 100,000 customer records or fewer than four meaningful data sources, a CDP rarely pays for itself. Put the money into media and creative instead.

Five-person team, Series A

Pick your pipeline on the events-per-user ratio, not the brand. Our maths shows a team on RudderStack’s entry tier and a team on Segment’s mid-tier can run the identical stack with a ₹10–15 lakh a year difference — a junior hire at that stage. On messaging, WebEngage’s or CleverTap’s entry tiers are the usual candidates under 50,000 MAU, and predictive features are not worth buying at that data volume.

Mid-market, 1–20 lakh MAU

This is where the three Indian engagement platforms genuinely compete and discounts are real: ₹6–25 lakh, ₹8–35 lakh and ₹10–40 lakh a year respectively. Run a paid pilot on two, get the MAU definition and a festive burst allowance written into the contract, and budget six to ten weeks of engineering to instrument events properly. Start incrementality testing here.

Larger and enterprise

Expect an enterprise data CDP from ₹40 lakh upward, with mParticle at ₹60 lakh–₹2 crore+ and Zeotap at ₹30 lakh–₹1 crore. Global vendors frequently discount India list pricing by 20–40%, and a mid-market build that would cost $250,000 in the US commonly lands at ₹80 lakh–₹1.2 crore all-in. If your warehouse already holds orders, support and product usage, reverse ETL on top of it is usually the cheaper and more flexible route. MMM becomes worthwhile once annual media passes ₹1–2 crore.

What we have not costed yet

This is a maintained reference, so here are the honest gaps. We have not published figures for any of the following, and you should not read a number into their absence:

  • Reverse ETL tools. We have covered what Hightouch, Census and RudderStack do and how their pricing is shaped, but no rupee or dollar band.
  • Zoho Campaigns and other email-only tools below the marketing automation tier.
  • PostHog and other self-hostable analytics allowances in numbers.
  • SEO and content tooling — rank trackers, keyword tools, content platforms.
  • Design, video and creative production tools, as distinct from the media-side creative budget above.
  • Agency retainers and freelance rates for campaign management in India.
  • Influencer and creator marketing costs at any tier.
  • Marketplace and quick-commerce ad platforms — a large share of Indian ad spend we have not priced.
  • Support and CX tools, session replay, and conversion-rate optimisation software.
  • Consent management and DPDP compliance tooling.
  • Loyalty and referral platforms.
  • Standalone data warehouse costs. We have only published the rule of thumb that warehouse-native CDPs add 10–20% of licence to your Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks bill.

We also cannot give you firm licence prices for the engagement platforms, because five of the six CDPs we compared run a “talk to sales” model. Segment is the only one publishing real list prices.

How this page was compiled

Every figure on this page comes from a LearnMarketing guide, listed below. Nothing here is a vendor quote, an industry average, or an estimate we introduced on this page. Where the underlying guides convert dollars to rupees, they assume roughly ₹88 to the US dollar.

Figures are as of 17 September 2026. Software pricing in this category moves several times a year — free tiers have been cut by 20x within a single quarter, and Meta changed its WhatsApp billing model to per-message on 1 July 2025. Treat every band here as a planning range for sanity-checking a quote, and confirm the current number with the vendor before you sign anything.

Frequently asked questions

What does a marketing stack cost a small Indian team?

Very little in software. GA4 is free, RudderStack’s free tier covers around a million events a month, Mixpanel’s free tier covers roughly a million events and Amplitude’s around 50,000 monthly tracked users, and Zoho Marketing Automation runs about ₹1,000–1,600 a month at 1,000 contacts. A WhatsApp provider adds ₹1,000–₹2,500 a month plus Meta’s per-message fees of roughly ₹0.78–₹0.88 for marketing templates. The real spend at this stage is media, not tools.

What does a mid-market Indian engagement platform cost per year?

Based on published pricing models rather than leaked contracts, the mid-market bands are roughly ₹6–25 lakh a year for WebEngage, ₹8–35 lakh for MoEngage and ₹10–40 lakh for CleverTap. All three price on monthly active users in slabs and none publishes a rate card, which is why the ranges are wide. Add channel costs separately — WhatsApp, SMS and email volume sit outside every licence quote you will receive.

Which layer of an Indian marketing stack costs the most?

Usually messaging, not software. In our worked example of a brand with 2 million monthly active users sending 1.5 million WhatsApp marketing messages a month, the platform licence lands near ₹20 lakh a year while Meta’s message fees come to roughly ₹1.44 crore a year — seven times the software bill. That reframes the evaluation: negotiate hard on the licence, but choose the platform on segmentation quality, because cutting send volume 20% saves more than the licence costs.

Is it cheaper to buy marketing tools billed in rupees?

Often materially cheaper, for reasons that never appear on a pricing page. Indian cards typically add a 2–3.5% cross-currency markup, and 18% GST applies to imported services under the reverse charge mechanism. On a ₹1.2 lakh monthly bill that is roughly ₹3,000–4,500 a month, about ₹40,000 a year, for nothing. GST-registered businesses can claim the tax back as input tax credit, so it is a cash-flow drag rather than a permanent loss — unless you are unregistered, in which case it is not recoverable.

How much should an Indian D2C brand spend on ads before buying tools?

Our planning split for a first ₹1,00,000 is about 70% Meta and 30% Google for discovery-led categories, reversed where people already search for your category by name. That is ₹3,333 a day, and the practical floor for a readable signal is ₹3,000–₹5,000 a day per platform. Budget another ₹10,000–₹20,000 for producing new creative. At that spend level, free analytics tiers and platform dashboards are all the measurement you need.

When does a small team actually need a CDP?

Later than most vendors suggest. As a practical threshold, below roughly 100,000 customer records or fewer than four meaningful data sources, a CDP rarely pays for itself — a CRM plus a marketing automation tool handles the same use cases far more cheaply. At seed stage, if you have one product, one website and fewer than five destination tools, GA4 plus a direct warehouse sync will usually cover you for a year.

What this means for you

  • Budget the total, not the licence. Year one on a CDP runs two to two-and-a-half times the vendor quote once integration and internal time are counted.
  • Model a year of channel spend before comparing quotes. On most Indian deals the messaging bill dominates the software bill, sometimes by several times.
  • Find your meter first. Divide monthly events by monthly active users, and check whether each vendor charges on users, events or stored profiles. That single number changes the ranking more than any feature comparison.
  • Default to rupee billing unless you can name a capability the rupee-billed option lacks and that you will use in the next 90 days.
  • Route messaging into the cheapest category that does the job. A utility message costs roughly one-sixth of a marketing message, and a reply inside the 24-hour window costs nothing.
  • Re-check every pricing page every six months. Free tiers have moved in both directions, and a 20x cut has already happened once in this category.
  • Tell us what is missing. The gaps listed above are the next things we intend to cost; if a layer you buy is not on this page, that is useful to know.
