Gupshup Pricing & Review (India)

Gupshup is a Meta-approved WhatsApp Business Solution Provider with SMS, RCS and voice attached. What it does, who it fits, and what we have not costed.

Pricing in India

Quote-based: Gupshup sells through sales rather than a public self-serve rate card, charging a monthly software fee plus Meta's per-message WhatsApp charges passed through — we have published no rupee figure for its plans.

Starter

Not published

Assumes one WhatsApp number and a small opted-in list. We have not costed this tier. For category context only, our published entry band for BSPs generally is ₹1,000–₹2,500 a month — that is the market, not a Gupshup quote.

  • WhatsApp Cloud API access via a Meta BSP
  • Template submission and approval workflow
  • Shared agent inbox
  • Broadcasts to opted-in contacts
  • Any rupee price published by us
  • Meta per-message charges (~₹0.78–₹0.88 marketing, ₹0.11–₹0.15 utility)
  • A public self-serve rate card

Growth

Not published

Assumes several agents, multi-channel sending and CRM or order-system integration. We have not costed this tier. Our published mid-market BSP band is ₹5,000–₹15,000 a month, again category-wide rather than Gupshup's rate.

  • Chatbot and conversation flow builder
  • SMS, RCS and voice on the same account
  • Segmentation and campaign scheduling
  • Click-to-WhatsApp ad routing
  • APIs and SDKs
  • Any rupee price published by us
  • Meta per-message charges, billed separately
  • Developer time to wire up integrations

Enterprise

Not published

Assumes high volume across WhatsApp, SMS and RCS with custom integration and a negotiated contract. We have published no figure at this scale and will not estimate one.

  • Custom integration and multi-channel routing
  • High-volume messaging across channels
  • Account-level support terms (contract-dependent)
  • Any rupee price published by us
  • Meta per-message charges, billed separately
  • Control over template approval, quality rating or messaging tier caps

Bands are our estimates for Indian buyers, not vendor list prices. Confirm with the vendor before budgeting.

What Gupshup is

Gupshup is a conversational messaging platform with deep roots in the Indian market, and a Meta-approved WhatsApp Business Solution Provider (BSP) — a vendor licensed to resell access to the WhatsApp Business Platform (Meta’s official API) wrapped in dashboards, template tools and an agent inbox. It also sells SMS, RCS (Rich Communication Services), voice and chatbot tooling, so a team running several messaging rails can buy them under one contract.

It is one of the BSPs we name in our WhatsApp marketing playbook. Important caveat up front: we have not published a rupee figure for any Gupshup plan, which is why every tier in the table above reads “Not published”. Gupshup does not run a public self-serve rate card the way some smaller BSPs do, and we will not repeat a number we cannot stand behind.

Key features

  • WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) access as a Meta BSP
  • Message template creation and submission for Meta approval
  • Shared agent inbox for two-way conversations
  • Chatbot and automated conversation flow builder
  • Campaign scheduling, segmentation and broadcast tooling
  • SMS, RCS, voice and email channels on the same account
  • APIs and SDKs for teams building their own front end
  • Click-to-WhatsApp ad routing into a chat thread
  • Catalogue and in-chat commerce support

Who it fits

Gupshup fits mid-market and enterprise teams in India that send on more than one channel. If your stack already runs transactional SMS and one-time passwords alongside WhatsApp order updates, consolidating them with a single provider cuts vendor management and gives you one place to see delivery data.

It also fits marketing teams of roughly ten to fifty people who have engineering support. The APIs reward a team that can wire messaging into an order management system or customer data platform rather than working purely from a dashboard. Categories where this pays off: e-commerce and direct-to-consumer, fintech, insurance, travel, education and logistics — anywhere order, payment and status events fire constantly and belong in the cheap utility message category.

It is overkill for a solo consultant or a single shop. At that stage the free WhatsApp Business App is enough, with its 256-saved-contact broadcast cap and no automation. A five-person startup sending a few thousand marketing messages a month will usually set up faster on a lighter, self-serve BSP.

Where it is weak

Pricing opacity. This is the honest headline. Gupshup’s commercials are quote-driven, and we have not costed any tier in rupees. For category context only, we have published an entry BSP band of ₹1,000–₹2,500 a month and a mid-market band of ₹5,000–₹15,000 a month — those are market figures for BSPs generally, not a Gupshup quote. Budget for a sales conversation, not a checkout page.

Breadth over simplicity. A platform covering WhatsApp, SMS, RCS, voice and bots has more surface area than a team that only wants WhatsApp broadcasts needs. Smaller teams often report faster time-to-first-campaign on single-purpose tools.

Developer-leaning. The deeper capability sits behind the API. Without an engineer, you are using a fraction of what you are paying for.

No BSP changes Meta’s economics. Whoever you pick, you still pay Meta roughly ₹0.78–₹0.88 per marketing message, ₹0.11–₹0.15 per utility message and about ₹0.13 per authentication message, with replies inside the open 24-hour service window free. Template approval, quality rating and messaging tier caps remain Meta’s call, not your vendor’s.

Switching cost. Moving a WhatsApp number between BSPs means migration plus re-approving templates. Choose deliberately.

Alternatives

  • AiSensy — a self-serve BSP aimed at smaller Indian teams, usually quicker to launch a first campaign. We cover it alongside Gupshup in the WhatsApp marketing playbook.
  • Interakt or WATI — shared-inbox-first tools popular with direct-to-consumer brands on Shopify and WooCommerce; also covered in the same playbook, which lists Zoko, Netcore and Infobip too.
  • Meta Cloud API direct — no hosting charge and no software fee, but you build the dashboard, template manager and inbox yourself. Sensible only with real developer time. If your bottleneck is customer data rather than messaging, compare against a platform instead in Best Customer Data Platforms in India.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Gupshup cost in India?

We have not published a price for any Gupshup plan, so treat every tier here as “Not published” until we cost it. Gupshup prices by quote rather than a public rate card. For category context, Business Solution Providers in India typically charge ₹1,000–₹15,000 a month in software fees, on top of Meta’s per-message charges, which are billed separately whichever provider you use.

Is Gupshup a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider?

Yes. Gupshup is a Meta-approved Business Solution Provider, meaning it resells access to the WhatsApp Business Platform — Meta’s official API — with an interface layered on top: template management, a shared agent inbox, campaign tools and chatbot flows. You pay Gupshup a software fee and Meta the per-message charge. Gupshup also offers SMS, RCS, voice and email on the same account.

Should I use Gupshup or Meta’s Cloud API directly?

Use the Cloud API directly only if you have developer time to build a dashboard, template manager and inbox yourself; Meta charges no hosting fee, so you pay just the per-message rate. Use a BSP like Gupshup if you want a shared team inbox, template approval workflow, catalogue support, Shopify or WooCommerce hooks and click-to-WhatsApp ad integration without building them.

What does WhatsApp messaging cost on top of Gupshup’s fee?

Meta bills per message, and those charges apply whichever provider you use. In India, expect roughly ₹0.78–₹0.88 per marketing message, ₹0.11–₹0.15 per utility message and around ₹0.13 per authentication message. Replies you send within 24 hours of a customer messaging you are free. Routing traffic into the utility category is the single biggest lever on your bill.
